Acne Scar Subcision

We are thrilled to introduce a groundbreaking solution for those battling with acne scars: Scar Subcision. This advanced treatment is used to minimize the appearance of “pitted scarring” associated with acne. It is also helpful in minimizing chicken pox scarring. Our providers have a passion for helping our clients gain confidence in their skin and appearance.  Many of our clients have had acne scars and have had such great results with this treatment.

What is Scar Subcision:

Scar Subcision is an effective way to help minimize the appearance of pitted acne scars.  It involves inserting a small needle under the skin to release the acne scar from the underlying tissue.  This allows the shallow pitted scar to rise and diminish the appearance of the scar.

This also can be helpful for chicken pox scars.  This procedure can be done with or without PRP (platelet rich plasma). Adding the platelet rich plasma under the skin while releasing the scar boosts the treatment by adding healing and collagen building properties in the PRP.  Ask your provider about adding the platelet rich plasma.

Risks:

Possible risks may include bruising, bleeding, hyperpigmentation from needle insertion is rare, infection, Most times the subcision of the scar is a one time treatment, however after the treatment if your scarred area reattaches to the underlying tissue you may need to repeat the treatment for the best outcome.  It just depends on how your skin heals.

What to expect:

Your provider will assess the area(s) needing this treatment.  Your skin will be prepped and sanitized.  Numbing cream or numbing by a small needle will be used for comfort.  The procedure will take about 30-60 minutes depending on how many areas are being treated. Not be used on patients who have active skin cancer in the treatment area(s); open wounds, sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area(s); an allergy to stainless steel or anesthetics; a hemorrhagic (bleeding) disorder or hemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction; are pregnant or nursing; or are currently taking accutane.

Pre/Post care:

Before your treatment it is recommended to not take any NSAID medications such as  aspirin, motrin, aleve or ibuprofen as this may increase your chance of bruising.  Please come without makeup for this procedure.

After your treatment do not touch or pick at the areas to decrease any chance of scarring or infection.  You may wash your face and apply sunscreen as normal following, but it is best to wait 24 hours before wearing makeup to decrease the chance of infection.

Pairs well with:

Dermal Infusion, regular facials, peels and Microneedling are great additions to this treatment to obtain the best results with your scar subcision.  We also offer muscular injections of vitamins and/or supplements to aid in healthy skin.  Glutathione, Biotin, B12, B Complex and/or our Tri-Immune Boost shots are all excellent for overall immune and skin health.
