Pre- and Post-Treatment Care for Tox and Fillers

By the Experts at KLS Aesthetics

As a prescriptive skincare clinic, KLS Aesthetics takes a client-centered approach that goes beyond the treatment room. Whether you’re visiting for Botox®, Xeomin®, Daxxify®, or dermal fillers, your comfort, safety, and satisfaction are our top priorities—from consultation to aftercare.

Our team of experienced providers works closely with you to ensure your treatment experience is not only effective but also smooth and stress-free. While your injector will give you personalized instructions, here’s a general overview of what to expect before and after your neurotoxin or filler appointment.

What to Know About Neurotoxins

Neurotoxins like Botox®, Xeomin®, and Daxxify® help relax facial muscles to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles—including crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines.

Pre-Treatment Tips:
  • Avoid alcohol, fish oil, vitamin E, and anti-inflammatory medications (like ibuprofen or aspirin) for 72 hours prior to your appointment to help minimize bruising.
  • Consider taking Arnica supplements for a few days before your appointment to reduce potential bruising and swelling.
  • If you have a big event coming up, plan ahead. Results take time to appear, so schedule your injection at least 2–3 weeks before your special occasion.

Post-Treatment Tips:
  • Stay upright (no lying down or bending over) for 6 hours after your injections.
  • Avoid touching, rubbing, or massaging the treated area for 24 hours.
  • Skip workouts, saunas, and hot tubs for 24 hours post-treatment.
  • Don’t wear tight-fitting hats for 6 hours if your forehead was treated.
  • Use gentle skincare and avoid harsh ingredients (like acids, retinoids, or exfoliants) until the next day.
  • Watch for signs of infection such as prolonged redness, warmth, or swelling—contact KLS Aesthetics if you have concerns.
  • Tylenol is fine for discomfort. Check with your primary care doctor before changing medications.
  • Avoid facials, microneedling, waxing, chemical peels, dental visits, or tattooing for 14 days.
  • Results typically take up to 14 days to appear. You may return after two weeks for a follow-up if needed—no additional units can be administered until then.

What to Know About Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers restore volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. They’re commonly used in the lips, cheeks, under eyes, jawline, and more.

Pre-Treatment Tips:
  • Avoid alcohol, oily supplements, and anti-inflammatory medications for 72 hours before your filler appointment.
  • If you’re on blood thinners like Warfarin, check with your doctor before proceeding.
  • Schedule any dental work at least two weeks before or after your filler appointment to avoid risk of infection.
  • If you’re prone to cold sores, take your antiviral prescription as recommended by your provider 2 days before and 3 days after your appointment to reduce the chance of an outbreak.

Post-Treatment Tips:
  • Avoid touching or pressing on the treated areas for 6 hours.
  • Be gentle when washing your face; skip exfoliating or using scrubs for at least 72 hours.
  • Avoid microneedling, chemical peels, or laser treatments for 2 weeks post-filler.
  • Stay out of direct sun and tanning beds for at least 2 weeks.
  • If you received lip filler, avoid using straws, smoking, or vaping for 2 weeks to prevent disturbing the filler.
  • Swelling and bruising are common and may last up to 2 weeks. Ice packs can be applied gently if needed.
  • Tylenol is safe for discomfort (consult your physician if you’re on other medications).
  • Watch for signs of infection or vascular issues (sudden pain, white or pale areas, excessive swelling). If you notice anything unusual, contact KLS Aesthetics immediately.

What Else Should You Know?
  • Tox results take time: Full results can take up to 14 days. A follow-up is recommended to evaluate your outcome.
  • Filler results evolve: Swelling and minor lumpiness are normal for up to two weeks.
  • Maintenance matters: Most clients return for neurotoxin treatments every 3–4 months, though Daxxify® may last longer. Filler timelines vary depending on the product used and the area treated.
  • Consistency = longevity: Sticking to your provider’s recommended schedule helps you achieve the best and most natural-looking results over time.
