At KLS Aesthetics in Renton, WA, we are excited to offer professional removal of small benign skin lesions—especially skin tags, one of the most common and frustrating skin concerns people experience.
There are many annoying little growths that can appear on the skin, and while many people refer to them all as “skin tags,” there are actually several different types. In addition to skin tags, we can also treat select benign lesions such as seborrheic keratoses (“barnacles”), sebaceous hyperplasia (oil gland overgrowth), fibrous papules (small firm bumps often found on the nose), and other similar non-cancerous growths after proper evaluation.
This service is led by Debbie Friant, PA-C, who brings over 30 years of dermatology experience diagnosing and treating skin conditions. With her expertise, she helps answer one of the most common questions patients have:
“What is this little bump?”
What Are Skin Tags?
Skin tags, also known as acrochordons, are very common, benign skin growths. They typically appear as small, soft, flesh-colored (or slightly darker) bumps that hang from the skin by a thin stalk.
They most often develop in areas where skin rubs together, such as:
- Neck
- Underarms
- Eyelids
- Groin
While harmless, they can become irritated, catch on clothing or jewelry, or bleed when shaved—making removal a simple and satisfying solution.
Common contributing factors include:
- Aging
- Weight changes
- Diabetes
- Pregnancy
Skin Tag vs. Mole: What’s the Difference?
Although both are common, skin tags and moles are not the same:
- Skin Tags: Soft, flesh-colored, and hang from the skin
- Moles: Contain pigment-producing cells, may be flat or raised, and vary in color
Because moles can carry a risk of melanoma, they require medical evaluation.
At KLS Aesthetics, we do not remove moles.
If a lesion appears suspicious or requires biopsy, we will refer you to a dermatologist.
Where Can Skin Tags Be Removed?
At KLS Aesthetics, we can remove skin tags and other benign lesions from most areas of the body.
Certain eyelid lesions may require referral to an ophthalmologist for safety.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Your appointment begins with a careful skin assessment to confirm that your lesion is appropriate for cosmetic removal.
If so:
- The area is numbed with a small lidocaine injection
- The lesion is removed using one of the following methods:
- Snip excision
- Cryotherapy (freezing)
- Electrocautery
- A small bandage is applied
Most treatments are quick, simple, and very well tolerated.
Pre & Post Care
- Return to normal activities the same day
- Keep the area clean and covered until healed
- Mild redness or irritation is normal
- Watch for signs of infection (rare)
Cost of Skin Tag Removal
Skin tag and benign lesion removal is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by insurance.
Pricing varies depending on the number and size of lesions and will be reviewed during your visit.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Skin tag removal is generally considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Lidocaine, used for numbing, is a Category B medication, meaning no known risk in studies. As always, we recommend discussing any concerns with your provider.
